Exhibition catalog printed to coincide with Family Shows: Rachel Kaye and Jay Nelson at Blunk Space, March 9 through April 20, 2024.

The first in a series of exhibitions at Blunk Space that presents artwork made by all the members of one family, Family Shows: Rachel Kaye and Jay Nelson presents work by San Francisco-based artists Rachel Kaye and Jay Nelson, and their daughters, Romy (9) and Zinnia (6). The concept is inspired by the family shows that JB Blunk organized at his home in the 1980s. For several weeks each spring, the Blunk family would open their home to the community and present weavings made by Blunk’s wife Christine Nielson, sculptures and paintings made by his sons Bruno and Rufus Blunk, drawings by his daughter Mariah Nielson, and his own ceramics, sculptures, and paintings. 

The catalog features images of the paintings, works on paper, furniture, and drawings included in the exhibition, plus photographs of the gallery installation and Kaye and Nelson’s shared studio. A conversation among Kaye, Nelson, and JB Blunk Estate and Blunk Space Director Mariah Nielson reflects on the couple’s time at the JB Blunk Residency in 2010 and how Blunk's art and home influenced their lives.
