Blunk Books Bundle
For the book lover in your life, the Blunk Books Bundle includes the fourth edition of the JB Blunk monograph, the newly published exhibition catalog JB Blunk: Continuum, and the newly reissued design favorite Undesigning the Bath by Leonard Koren.
The fourth edition of Blunk Space’s best-selling monograph features a new color cover and artwork. JB Blunk presents the breadth of the artist's practice and includes never-before-seen archival and newly commissioned photographs of jewelry, ceramics, paintings, furniture, sculpture, and his hand-built house. The book features essays by Lucy Lippard, Glenn Adamson, Fariba Bogzaran, Louise Allison Cort, and René Bustamante that contextualize Blunk among his contemporaries, his materials, and his places.
JB Blunk: Continuum is a hardcover exhibition catalog for the first retrospective of JB Blunk’s works in Europe, on view at the Fondation d’entreprise Martell in Cognac, France, from June 8 – December 29, 2024. The catalog features a joint foreword by Mariah Nielson, Director of the JB Blunk Estate, and Anne-Claire Duprat, Director of the Martell Foundation, and section texts by Anne Dressen, curator at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, along with never-before-seen archival material and photography of the remarkable installation, designed by London-based Martino Gamper exclusively for the exhibition.
In the quarter century since its publication, and long since out of print, Undesigning the Bath has accrued a devoted following amongst designers and artists. The book presented a novel idea, coming from an artist and designer: that design is, in some fundamental ways, antithetical to the essential bathing experience. It was the culmination of a many-decade interest of Koren’s, who created bath-related events, unusual bathing environments, and paper works about bathing, including the avant-garde WET: The Magazine of Gourmet Bathing, from 1976–81.
The monograph and catalog are edited by Blunk Estate Director Mariah Nielson, designed by Kajsa Ståhl of Åbäke, and published by Blunk Books. Undesigning the Bath is written and designed by Leonard Koren, and reissued by Blunk Books.
